The World Record Pushers

A terminal block with what it takes to set a world record. On November 4, 2026, ten students connected 500 terminals in record time, ensuring a smooth flow of electricity.

A breathless silence, until the light at the very top turned green

The dual-track students from Phoenix Contact had prepared meticulously to attempt a world record the evening before a women’s Bundesliga handball game at the Synflex Arena in Blomberg. Ten active participants, seven “reserves,” and the trainers from the company’s in-house training program were, so to speak, “under pressure.”
The ten aspiring mechatronics and electrical engineers each had a DIN rail with 50 terminal blocks in front of them on a wall, which they had to wire up as quickly as possible under the watchful eye of the official Guinness adjudicator Lena Kuhlmann.

A successful connection is indicated both visually and audibly. This makes wiring faster and, above all, safer.

The Push-X terminal block not only provides a visual indication of a successful connection; it also emits a clicking sound when the wire is correctly engaged. So every click means a successful connection. That’s why it had to be absolutely silent in the sports hall on Ulmenallee during the record attempt. No easy feat, since shortly before a home game for the reigning German women’s handball champions, the HSG Blomberg, the atmosphere here is usually boisterous and filled with loud cheering.

The fact that not all the lights came on right away had everyone on edge for a moment. In the end, however, five green lights signaled to the dual-enrollment students, the referee, and the spectators alike: Everything worked out—the power is flowing. And all in just 2 minutes and 20 seconds. The cheers were loud, and the excitement spread to the spectators as well.

From the training workshop to the arena: The Phoenix Contact team is ready to go

It’s hard to imagine a better demonstration of the capabilities of the innovative Push-X technology, since the young team was made up of first-year students who had only been with Phoenix Contact since August. That said, installers rarely have to work as quickly as they did that evening in their day-to-day jobs…
