A Walk in the Park

Potzblitz: its opening was accompanied by downpours and thunder. The Nieheim solar park went into operation on June 27. After more than four years of development, investor and developer Georg von Puttkamer opened the approximately 16-hectare park in the tranquil Emmer valley near Himmighausen.

The ground-mounted photovoltaic system feeds up to 11.6 megawatts of power into the public grid. Enough energy to supply around 5000 households with electricity. 30,000 solar panels were elevated for this purpose. Connection technology from Phoenix Contact ensures the safe flow of energy in the system, automation solutions for smooth operation and innovative feed-in controllers for the connection to the power grid.

The special thing about the solar park is its integration into nature. Not least through intensive public participation, it was ensured that hedges, bushes and trees between the large module areas ensure that the used area blends harmoniously into the overall picture of the rural region.

The local solar park was realized by the project developer BLG – Solar Project under the direction of Christian Hess and Benjamin Dietrich. Phoenix Contact is not only present with components and additional technological coordination, but also sees its commitment as a visualization of the philosophy of the All Electric Society and as an extension of the AES Park, which is around 30 kilometers away, as Jörg Nolte, responsible for the solution business (infrastructure) of the technology group, explained at the opening.
